WHAT IS A SLOW ROLL?

Originally started in Detroit, a Slow Roll is a free and inclusive community ride that is open to all ages and skill levels.

WHEN IS THE SLOW ROLL AND IS IT REALLY FREE?

The BIG Slow Roll will be held during Sarnia’s BIG Bike Week at 2pm on Sunday June 4th, 2023. It is free and inclusive for all.

HOW DO I REGISTER AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

BIG Slow Roll is free to all but donations to support our charities will be appreciated. However, you must register online and sign a waiver. Both can be done online. To register an 18+ participant please click here. To register an U-18 participant you can click here.

WHAT CHARITIES DOES SLOW ROLL SUPPORT?

Slow Roll will be supporting BIG Brothers BIG Sisters Sarnia and Palliative Care in our community.

HOW OLD DOES A PARTICIPANT NEED TO BE TO RIDE BY THEMSELF?

A participant must be 14 years or older to ride by themselves. If under 14 participants must be accompanied by an adult.

WHERE DOES SLOW ROLL START AND FINISH?

Slow Roll will start at Sarnia City Hall on Front Street and finish at the Suncor Agora in Centennial Park, Front Street, Sarnia.

HOW LONG AND FAST ARE THE RIDES?

Slow Roll is around 10 kilometers at 10-15 km/hr, a speed that you can easily ride on your “cruiser bike”. Starting in 2023, we will also be offering a short 1-2km loop around Centennial for anyone wanting to participate without committing to the full 10 kilometers.

WHAT ELSE CAN WE EXPECT?

Did we mention free t-shirts for the first 500 registered riders? Watch for the live music on route as well! Post ride, participants can enjoy music at the Suncor Agora stage in Centennial park while grabbing something to eat/drink at Poutine Fest. A beer table will also be provided by Imperial City Brewery.

SO, IT IS MORE THAN JUST A BIKE RIDE?

YES INDEED! It’s a community event for all ages to encourage active transportation in our city, connect people and have FUN FUN FUN – the bike is just the vehicle to make it happen.

IS BIG SLOW ROLL A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION?

Yes. BIG Slow Roll is part of Bluewater International Granfondo which is controlled by a Not for Profit Corporation. We are a nimble operation run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors and committee, supported by a very strong group of volunteers.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

A GOOD ATTITUDE plus a working bike, extra bike tire tube, bike lights, water and helmet.

ARE HELMETS REQUIRED?

All riders under 18 are required to wear a safety certified bicycle helmet as stated in the provincial law. However, we strongly urge everyone to wear a helmet.

ARE THERE WASHROOMS ON THE ROUTE?

The public washrooms under the Bluewater Bridge, at Canatara Park and at the Suncor Agora in Centennial Park will be open for your convenience.

IF WE TAKE SELFIES OR FAMILY PHOTOS, WHERE SHOULD WE SEND THEM?

WILL THERE BE A VACCINE MANDATE, VACCINE PASSPORT MANDATE OR MASK MANDATE?

We will follow all Provincial guidelines.

WHAT HAPPENS IF COVID CASES INCREASE AGAIN AND THERE ARE NEW RESTRICTIONS?

Our aim has been to communicate consistently with you. Due to Canada’s high vaccination rate, we are optimistic that all our planned event will happen in 2023.
